Make New Rave Fam After Moving

When I moved from Chicago to Dallas, I had only started to emerge myself into the EDM scene. I didn't know too much about different DJs, genres, or even how to dress when I went to shows. I have learned so much in the past few years. The most important thing I have learned is how to make friends.

When I moved to Chicago, I was pretty outgoing, but most of my friends were friends that I was introduced to via my boyfriend at the time. When I moved to Dallas, I decided that I wanted to learn about new music, but I needed friends to go to shows with. I didn't rave at the time, so everything was kind of new to me. I ended up making some friends at work who really liked to go to EDM shows. I asked them who I should listen to and they advised me on some great artists. These people became some of my best friends and my forever rave fam.

I soon had to move to Denver because my boyfriend had gotten a promotion. At this point, I knew that I loved EDM, its PLUR culture, and the positivity and love it brought to my life. So in order to make friends in Denver, I knew exactly what I had to do. I had to find some fellow ravers!

I asked around at work to see if anyone at work raved. Someone recommended that I talk to one of the girls who worked in the department next to mine. I walked over to her one day and said, "A little birdy told me that you like to rave." She smiled at me and said, "Yeah! Actually, there is a show at 1Up on Wednesday if you want to come with us." (This was back when 1Up on Colfax was cool and had shows at their venue.) I agreed to go and met them there that night. Run DMT was playing. We had a blast and immediately became great friends from then on.

These girls empowered me to consistently go to shows, make friends, and ever since I have learned so much about the rave scene. Every event I have gone to since, I have made more and more friends. Big events like UME and Electric Forest brought me rave family that I will forever hold dear to my heart. These humans have taught me how to love an accept myself and accept others even in the weirdest circumstances.

So, don't be afraid of moving to a new city. I promise that you will make friends! Just keep an open mind and an open heart, and keep jamming to that music that you love. And look for ravers wherever you go! ✌🏻️💜
